In June of 2023, ATTOM Data Solutions (a leading provider of real estate data) released its May 2023 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report. According to the report, U.S. foreclosure filings were up 7 percent from a month ago, and 14 percent from a year ago. This means that 1 in every 3,967 housing units throughout the U.S. had a foreclosure filing. The highest foreclosure rates were in Illinois (1 in every 2,144 housing units); Maryland (1 in every 2,203 housing units); New Jersey (1 in every 2,257 housing units); Florida (1 in every 2,470 housing units); and Ohio (1 in every 2,478 housing units).
According to ATTOM Data Solution's CEO Rob Barber, "The recent increase in foreclosure filings nationwide indicates a trend that has been observed throughout the year, and what we have expected to occur."
