Foreclosure Activity Increases in July of 2024

Act Now

According to ATTOM Data, a nationwide provider of housing data, there was an uptick in foreclosure activity in July of 2024. New foreclosure filings were up 18% over the prior month, and up 4% from a year ago. Among the fifty states, Illinois ranked fourth highest in new foreclosure filings, and the city of Chicago ranked second highest in the country after New York.

What does this mean?

This uptick in new foreclosure filings is signifcant, although more data over a greater period of time will be necessary to assess whether the increase is indicative of greater problems in the housing market.
